OTOVATION Announces New Amplitude Line of PC Audiometers

OTOVATION today announced its new Amplitude line of PC-based audiometers. Amplitude addresses the need for efficient and portable audiometric testing on a standard Windows PC. The first model in the Amplitude line, the A1, is based on a headset that can be connected directly to a USB port on a PC running the Amplitude software. The Amplitude A1 is designed to make audiometric testing quick and easy, portable, and usable on a wide variety of existing PC's as well as the latest of tablet and ultra-portable PC's.
Some of Amplitude A1's features:* USB connection to a desktop, laptop, tablet or ultra-portable PC * Connect headset to PC, load Amplitude software, and be ready for testing in about a minute * Keyboard, mouse, and touch-screen capable interface * Built-in patient database and easy, flexible operation * 11 frequencies from 125 to 8k Hz and intensity range from -10 to 110 dB HL * Manual or automated (Hughson-Westlake) testing * Optional bone conduction with masking The new Amplitude A1 will be demonstrated in OTOVATION's booth 505 at the American Academy of Audiology Conference and Expo in Washington, DC from March 31st through April 2nd.

Mobile phone penetration is increasing globally. With the increase in handsets, being able to communicate with the handset owners in their own language is something that is becoming increasingly important. The first question that comes to mind is how it works when foreign languages are sent to mobiles from a web site. Based on the fact that computers fundamentally just deal with numbers, letters and characters are stored using a unique number for each and in the past these unique numbers had to be assigned through the use of encoding systems. Playing by written music is exactly what the phrase says it is -- playing the exact notation on a piece of sheet music. But playing by chord symbol is very different. Instead of following the harmony note by note, the musician follows the chord symbols (i.e. C7 or F or Bbm, etc.) written above the harmonies, filling in the gaps with their own improvisations based on those chords.

Am I too old to learn to play a musical instrument?

I have been teaching Keyboard and Organ for nearly thirty years, my youngest student was Four years old, and the oldest was Eighty years old.

So the simple answer to the above question would be No. Maybe the question should be, would I like to learn to play a musical instrument? It is fairly probable that you are not going to become a concert pianist if you start learning at the age of eighty but that does not matter. Learning music is about what you personally want to get out of it. You might for instance want to learn to play one piece of music or a book of music or just to see how far you can go. There are no limits.

You can learn as much or as little as you personally want.

I have taught many older people that have said, "I wish I had learned to play when I was younger" and "children can learn a lot quicker" and "maybe I won't be able to learn at my age". Yes children will pick things up a little quicker because they have less to think about such...
